The choir sings a wide range of music, both sacred and secular, which includes hymns, spirituals, operatic items, film and show music, as well as 'folk' and
'pop'. Bearing in mind the choir's origins, we sing a number of Welsh
pieces, several in the Welsh language. We also sing in French, German,
Italian, Latin and a South African dialect.
At any one time, our repertoire will consist of about forty pieces of music, with items being added and removed continually. We are constantly buying new music and have a library containing over two hundred works, so we really are spoilt for choice. In addition our 'front team' are all talented composers and arrangers. Our concert programmes will usually consist of 18-20 pieces, with two solo spots, usually sung by our own members, although we do invite soloists from outside the choir to perform with us. The choir sings over twenty concerts every year and each programme will be different. Our present repertoire contains items as diverse as:- Morte Criste, Myfanwy,
the Soldier's Chorus, and two pieces from 'Les Miserables'. We also sing a medley of popular music from the 60's and a number of spirituals.
Several of the pieces that we learned for the Royal Albert Hall concert
in March 2007 are now in our own concert programmes and include some of the great Welsh hymns and a lovely arrangement of 'Danny Boy'. This
year we have also introduced 'Sit down your rocking the boat' and a very demanding arrangement of 'Climb Every Mountain' from The Sound Of Music,
'Autumn Leaves' 'Non Nobis Domine' and 'Begin the Beguine', the opening
number from a very nice medley by Alan Simmons entitled 'The Kings of Swing'.
'Cavatina' is also nearly concert ready. Our proposed repertoire for 2008
will include learning the rest of 'Kings of Swing' together with 'Love is
all around' and 'Nessun Dorma'.
