The choir sings a wide range of music, both sacred and secular, which includes hymns, spirituals, operatic items, film and show music, as well as 'folk' and
'pop'. Bearing in mind the choir's origins, we sing a number of Welsh
pieces, several in the Welsh language. We also sing in French, German,
Italian, Latin and a South African dialect.
At any one time, our repertoire will consist of about forty pieces of music, with items being added and removed continually. We are constantly buying new music and have a library containing over two hundred works, so we really are spoilt for choice. In addition our 'front team' are all talented composers and arrangers. Our concert programmes will usually consist of 18-20 pieces, with two solo spots, usually sung by our own members, although we do invite soloists from outside the choir to perform with us. The choir sings over twenty concerts every year and each programme will be different. Our present repertoire contains items as diverse as:- Morte Criste, Myfanwy,
the Soldier's Chorus, two pieces from 'Les Miserables' and
'Love is all around' from the film 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. We also sing a number of spirituals.
2009 saw the introduction of a number of new pieces into our concert repertoire including a very good arrangement of 'What shall we do with a drunken sailor?', Barcarolle (from the Tales of Hoffman) and 'Sit down you're rocking the boat' together with a couple of new carols.
This year, (2010) has seen the
introduction of nice arrangements of
'He's got the whole world in His Hands' and 'You Raise Me Up' and we have
started learning
a male voice version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. We are also working hard on
some of the pieces which are to be sung in the 50th Anniversary Concert of
The Welsh Association of Male Choirs, (South Wales Branch), at The Royal
Albert Hall in 2012. This concert will be sung by almost 1000 male voices.
